Square knitting needles?

I just got a pair of square 5mm needles as a free gift with a magazine.

I didn't even know they existed! Shock

So can you use them in place of normal needles anywhere? Or only for specific square needle patterns?

Thanks!

Yes, square needles can be used in place of normal needles.

Square needles are said to be easier on your hands and can result in stitches that are more even than regular needles. I have no idea if that's true, as I've never used square needles myself, but it sounds interesting.

Yes, anywhere.

Knitpicks ones are great.

I use KnitPro Cubics for sock knitting, they are lovely.
