Cross stitchers - do you frame your masterpieces yourself?

I have finally finished my mum's sampler and want to get it to her for the weekend. I was hoping to just buy a frame from Tescos or somesuch - is there a good way of framing them - do you stitch down the back or summat?

Dh does it for me. The best way is to gather the aida round the back and stich together if you know what I mean to make it tight

Yes, I 'lace' mine. Even if I'm getting an awkward size framed professionally, I get them to cut me some board so I can stretch it properly. Don't be tempted to use glue, because it may come through and damage or stain the fabric. Also, it may 'perish' and the fabris could slip. Be careful not to have it too bulky on the corners where you've laced it, as you may not be able to fit it into a bought frame.
