Easter Bonnet - simple ideas anyone?

My three year old has to have an Easter bonnet for the school parade. Last year my disastrous effort fell apart in about three minutes. Would love to know what ideas other people have had for something that's simple and will last for at least a few hours!

Sorry if this has already been discussed - but sure that there are a lot of people out there with some great ideas.

how did you do it last year?

the easiest way is to buy a straw hat (in a chairty shop or somehwere) and attach plastic flowers, easter chicks etc through the 'weave' with freezer bag ties or similar.
Or sew them onto a fabric hat.
Making a hat from scratch is much trickier

As dc is only 3, I would get a card and make a band to go round the head, then let him/her decorate it with whatever you've got to hand - chicks/chocs/rabbits etc, or even just draw on it.

As they get older and produce more impressive things, it's a good idea to put it away in a bag at the back of the wardrobe for next/subsequent years or children!

this looks simple but effective

an easy way is to make a headband shape out of card and make really big petal shapes all around. a bit like this always looks cute

I've got this delimma for the first time this year and as someone who hasn't got an artistic bone in her body I'm dreading it.....did read a suggestion that said use a paper plate - decorate - add ties to go under the chin...

Last year I made the whole hat out of green paper - so for a start it was in the shape of a witch's hat. Then I sort of made paper daffodils (with stalks) that were all over the hat. I really don't know what I was thinking - probably mistakenly imagined myself as some sort of creative genius. It looked a mess and fell apart very quickly.

The tricky thing is that I want it to look very impressive but without putting too much work in. I think I might go for the straw hat idea - it sounds effective.

TCM - try your local 'Birthdays' Card shop (if there is one hear you) They are selling 'straw' hats for 1.99 which you could then jazz up (I'm thinking of going this route myself....)

Oh and elc are selling them for 3.00 - you could customise it.....

If you have a Hobbycraft near you they are selling the straw hats and all sorts of paraphanalia to go on them.

For 5yo DS, I am thinking yellow baseball cap. That's as far as my thinking has taken me so far ha ha

He is NOT going to want to go to school with daffs, chicks or eggs on his hat. He's a big manly 5 year old who likes dinosaurs and killer whales FGS!!! He looked at me in horror when I told him about the easter hat competition at school!

Pound shops often have straw hats too and a variety of yellow chicks you could attach.

Pollyanna - that looks scarily like last year's creation for me too - although mine was falling apart as quickly as I could glue it back together. What glue did you use? Or did you staple?

I can't remember using a specific glue - just ELC glue I expect. We had alot of tissue paper on, and I think I put some glue in between the layers. It was very successful for me (I have zero creative ability )
