One of the women in my team is due to go on maternity leave soon and I would like to knit a cardigan or matinee jacket for the new arrival, a boy. I used to have a whole portfolio of vintage patterns that my great aunt left me from when she worked in a wool shop in the 50s and 60s, but they got damaged and I haven't got anything left. I'm not an absolute beginner but would struggle to follow a really complex pattern. Has anyone got any links to free patterns for a newborn that they have tried and are reliable? Thanks in advance.

If you have Pinterest search for the Norwegian Fir Cardigan. It's worked from the top down. One tip I would pass on is to knit the sleeves before the main part of the body.

I knit it on straight needles and seam the sleeves rather than knit in the round. I knitted the yoke then put the stitches for the two fronts and the back on three stitch holders. Then knit the two sleeves then put the stitches for the fronts and the back on your needles and carry on. Two shorts seams and a button and you're done Smile
