I can knit and crochet a little and usually just make things for myself but I'm making a baby blanket for a friend so I want it to look nice. No matter how much I weave the ends in they always slowly start to show and it looks untidy. Am I missing a trick?

I leave a very long tail probably about 12 inches and weave through, going one direction and then another.

Have a look at the Russian join technique
www.lionbrand.com/blog/how-to-russian-join-yarn-in-7-easy-steps/

It's fantastic, it makes one continuous thread with no ends to weave in. It depends on the wool you're using how easy it is to do, but you can use it on same or different colours.

Is this a knit or a crochet blanket?

I weave and then go back and sew the ends in to make sure. It's pain but least weaving you get vary lengths of where the join is so get less bumps on one side.
