Trouser hem went 'frilly' can I fix it?

My mum asked me to lengthen a pair of trousers

Lengthen ok
The hem went frilly
So I sewed bias on the bottom & it went even frillier!!

What am I doing wrong & how can I fix it?

Did you let the hem down? Or add more fabric?

Let them down

Think I should have used tape to hem them not bias binding

It sounds like you stretched the fabric a little as you were sewing the binding on. I do think tape would have worked better, but even so, you do have to be careful not to stretch things. You might be able to wash them and have the fabric frill shrink back to normal.... you could even just get the hems wet and use a hair dryer on them to test the idea.

I've taken the bias off & I'm going to steam them with a damp cloth & see how that looks & maybe hand sew the tape on to see if I get a better finish
