Gift for a knitter

Can anyone help please? I am struggling with gift ideas for my dm. She has recently been doing a lot of knitting so thought something knitting related might be good but I don't knit so am clueless.

She really only knits clothes for the grandkids and uses old patterns from the 70s/80s so I thought maybe some new patterns might be good.

Can anyone recommend a good pattern book for young kids (toddlers and babies) please? Or some other knitting gift ideas?

Or just a good website / shop I can browse.

A set of bamboo knitting needles in a case in a range of sizes is a good choice. A ball of wool holder - its like a ceramic dish with a grooves to feed the wool through. Etsy is a good place for one of them.

As for wool, try Black Sheep Wools, lots of choice there.

Debbie Bliss does lovely knitting pattern books, also look out for knitted toy pattern books. Maybe a knitted toy kit etc

Personally I wouldn't pay for patterns when there are hundreds available free. How about printing out some pdfs and putting them in polys in a decorative folder, along with a multi pack of yarn?

I didn't know they were free. I don't think she did either as the ones she uses look like old magazine pull outs.

Also, search Etsy for "knitting stitch markers" - these are so pretty and I love getting them as gifts!

I'd avoid something like bamboo needles unless you've asked her whether she likes them as a lot of knitters have strong preferences for needles - not just what they're made from, but how pointy different brands are. If your mum is using old Aero/Pony metal needles so you know she likes metal, you could check out a 'newer' brand - Addi (available on eBay etc) are my favourites as they're very, very pointy and can be a revelation to knitters who like metal needles but have only used those old grey ones.

(I actually feel sick if I touch wood/bamboo needles - they make my tongue curl! Can't explain it).

Also give her a link to Ravlery.com if she is online. Lots of patterns free and toherwise on there, and downloadable. They also have a database of patterns from all over the world, magazines, books, vintage patterns, etc etc so she can search and find precisely what she wants. If she's not computer-friendly but lvoes old patterns, check out the books of the lovely Susan Crawford:

Does she use circular needles (ones with a needle either end and a cable joining them)? If so, there is a new set of interchangables out, by the KnitPro company - KnitPro Zing interchangables.

Most of the KnitPro products are pretty good - they make some beautiful wooden needles - I tend not to buy these, as I have a habit of snapping them, but other people use them, love them and swear by them.

I am nor sure what needles she uses. I think they are great but that's all I noticed. Am going over to see her at some point this weekend so will take a proper look. Thanks for your help.
