Best yarn for crochet beginner

Could you recommend your favourite yarn (and where to buy) for a crochet beginner?

I've been trying to learn with a couple of yarns, but the strands seem to split which is making it tricky to see where to go, if that makes sense! Would like to get past the chain stitch Grin

I started with Stylecraft Special DK when I learned and I am still using it because it is very inexpensive, comes in many colours and despite being 100% acrylic, it feels lovely to work with as well as the final result.

I buy Stylecraft DK and it's lovely and soft and good quality too. I buy online, which isn't great as you can't see the colours but I'm sure you can buy a Stylecraft sampler which shows their range. Wool Warehouse is the site I use.

Great minds!

Thanks both I will try that! I've made some small progress with single stitch today, but started to create a circle 🤔

See if you can follow Attic24 tutorials.

Yes another Stylecraft Double knit cheap and cheeryful but makes lovely blankets and stuff.

I still can't crochet with cotton yarn breaks, twists and knots cracks me up!
