Made a mistake now stuck with two ellison dies I can't use...help!

Bought myself two lovely dies thinking they would fit my sizzix and they don't - aaaargh!

That's 24 quid down the drain and I don't know what to do - sell them off or buy a machine that will fit them. Any recommendations? Has the big shot improved as I seem to remember lots of people complaining about broken plates? What is the quikcutz machine like? How much do these cost?

Can you not get adapters or converters to use different dies with the Sizzix ?? I can never remember which was which

anorak · 05/02/2007 18:24

No these dies are wider than my sizzix!

I don't mean thicker than, I mean wider. They don't go through.

Blimey - they must be monsters !!
I know a few on here have a Big Shot - maybe you can sell them on??

anorak · 05/02/2007 18:46

Or get a big shot...depending how much they cost. They do say on the packaging 'compatible with Big Shot and other die-cutting systems' so I assumed that meant sizzix also, considering Ellison is the company that makes it.

And I can't take them back because I bought them at the Thorpe Park craft supplies fair.

I got totally confused about what goes with what & what you need - I've just stuck to my Sizzix (I need to do a clear out though - got too much stuff)

serves you right for going to that craft goody-fest

anorak · 05/02/2007 19:01

I also stuck to my sizzix but I thought these dies were sizzix dies

the fun of going to the craft fest is a bit spoiled now. Unless I can get my DH to agree that I need to buy something else to use the dies of course

Don't the company have a website? You may well be able to return them like that.

anorak · 05/02/2007 19:38

I cut the packaging off one of them and went to use it before I realised

Anyway it wasn't a Sizzix stall.

awww anorak!! hate when that happens!!

the big shot is fabby, i didnt like it at first, tried it out last april but I saw some dies i wanted to try and heard you could do 6 sizzlits at a time.
A craft store had £25 off big shots at the end of last year so I went for it, so glad i did. I do love my sizzix and think i still prefer the "pull down action"

not that i'd tempt you to ourchase craft stuff...... {buy it }

no seriously, can you send the die that's not oppened to the company, do you still have their details?

And then sell the open one, which one is it?

Champs · 06/02/2007 02:26

oh, quickutz will be too small for the ellison thick cuts.

the old plates have been replaced in the bigshots now, i made sure to ask when i got mine as i didnt want any breaking plates.
make sure the shop you buy it from has the new ones.
I do hear a funny "crick" noise sometimes, oh and i dont like the way the plates get marked.

oh and the "sandwhiching" is abit tedius only needed for small dies.

thin cuts and sizzlits cut clean and sharp and crisp with the BS I know alot of people didnt have great results with sizzix in that respect.

anorak · 06/02/2007 12:09

Hmmm might buy the big shot then. Roughly how much will it set me back?

£64.95 from Crafy Devils in Barnstaple - mail order is p&p free at that amount I think.

I got mine before Xmas - they were charging a bit more than that, and it was still about the cheapest I think.

auntyquated · 06/02/2007 21:14

anorak - which dies did you buy?
i have the big shot and am still struggling with broken plates. i know some who bought the big shot have gone back to using their sizzix

anorak · 07/02/2007 08:29

i love my bigshot. if you have the money, then buy it, otherwise, flog the dies. mistakes happen

anorak · 09/02/2007 15:13

Right then. I've cut a deal with DH. If I go without the usual red roses he forks out for for Valentine's day I can have a big shot.

Hooray!
