Urgent help - charcter costume from a book for school

Not sure if that makes sense - but as part of my ds book week they are required next friday to come dressed up as a charcter from their favourite book - so far he has said a dinosaur, a power ranger ( for which we do have an outfit - but no deeply educational book!) and a worm !!!

I thought a gingerbread man would be good as he likes the story - but I am craft-challenged and am crap at amkng anything !!!
Please has anyone got anyother ideas of something I could make easily - he's nearly 4 so all this is a bit over the top - but as we have just joined the school want to show willing....

gingerbread man - brown clothes with brown mittens / socks on hand - then make a mask with a paper plate or round card. (DS could help!!)

You could make some big card circles to attach to his front for buttons?

pirate? scarf around head, make an eye patch and sword?

cowboy?

He could take in a bucket full of dinosaurs to be Harry and the bucket full of dinosaurs.

Harry Potter? All you need is a cape (bin liner), glasses and an eye-liner scar on his forehead.

robin hood. Wear green and take a stick.

these are great - want to go with something he is vaguely familiar with - like the bucketful of dins route - sounds low effort! but thanks for gingerbread ideas this is good -

keep em coming.....

NODDY?

Fairly easy - blue floppy hat with or without bell on end (easyish to make), red t. shirt, yellow scarf and blue shorts (I think).
Here is a picture \link {http//www.five.tv/media/image/8506332.jpg}
Hope it works (not done a link before).

Havent had a thought yet but am working on it, but as I work in a school just a little tip, dont do anything too ambitious, remember he still has to go to the loo etc. The amount of parents that go to town on there childrens costume and actually sew them in(honest) you would be amazed. Something very low maintenance like the idea o Harry and the bucketful of dino's

What about a character from the Charlie and the chocolate factory-OOMPA LUMPA or Mike TV

my son just used to go to every book day dressed as a footballer (so did about 80% of the others)

I made a tall red and white striped hat out of cardboard for DD last year and she was the Cat in the Hat. She had a black catsuit on but any black clothes would do.

Harry and his bucket full of dinosaurs wins my vote for when my DS has to do this in Feb.

Actually thinking about this now when DD(many years ago) wanted to be Postmen Pat so we very carefully made her the hat etc and then labelled envelopes for all the children in her class and put a small sweet in it so she actaully had something to hand out like post!! She loved so did the children not sure if teacher did! Very easy costume DD wore her school jumper and pr of jeans and DH tie. Used my hand bag for postbag and I painted on her face his glasses. She also had Jess the cat

DS1 went in as Captain Underpants last autumn. (tights, big white pants that I drew a y-front on, cape made out of a cheapo pillowcase I bought specially, bathing cap to make him bald)

Went over very well.
