painted ceramic leaving pressies - advice needed

Hello all,

Was thinking of getting DD to paint a few mugs/coasters as leaving presents for her nursery assistants when she leaves soon, but haven't done it before so could do with some advice.

I've seen some porcelain packs on Amazon and some porcelain pens to decorate them with, but what do you do about varnishing/glazing so the pattern doesn't come off? Any tried and tested tips?

We brought a pack of these of Amazon, it has 4 mugs, photo frames, magnets & heart shapes with 4 pens for about £22.

To heat fix, let ceramic items after painting dry about 4 hours, then put the item for 30 mins at 160C in a non preheated oven.
