Crochet

Hi,

Learning to crochet is currently appealing to me. But once I've learned, what do I do with the stuff I make? I suspect family and friends would probably get sick of receiving it. Crochet-ers, what do you make and what do you do with it? I've not looked into it yet, so I'm a complete novice.

I'm not particularly crafty, but for some reason I fancy giving this a go.

I took up crocheting a few years ago and love it. I recommend learning from youtube videos - much easier than from a book. Also Attic24 is a great blog with lovely patterns that are very easy to follow.

I've made several blankets for family, it's nice to think my children will grow up with the blankets i've made for them. Also made baskets, bags, toys, shawls, scarves and hats.

Ravelry is a brilliant website for free patterns and info on wool. if you find someone whose work you like you can take a look at what else they have made to get inspired.

They are easy to make and they don't mind what colour/yarn you use...I've done some donkey colours and some jazzy ones! A friend of mine makes Twiddle Muffs for dementia pastients at the local hospital. Lots of care homes use small crochet blankets for over the lady's knees to keep their dignity, my nan's place was always grateful for more. Also, places like dog rescues are always looking for donations to be used as raffle prizes, etc. Maybe school fair/baby unit/etc.

A few ideas there, thanks. I like the idea of donkeys! And of my children having something they can keep. I have a crocheted blanket which my grandmother made. I've not used it often, but I love that all my babies have been snuggled in it at some point.

I'll have a look at a few videos, see if it's something my fingers will be capable of.

I learnt a year ago via YouTube videos - I'm totally addicted and have started selling blankets on my local Facebook selling page. I'm also doing some squares for Wooly Hugs at the minute.

Gifts for other people mainly. I like to make amiragumi animals and having friends with toddlers they all love them.

I'm making a couple of blankets and cushions for Christmas and also a couple of Cowls for people. I'm really really slow so they may not get them until next year

Pinterest is good as another source for patterns outside of Ravelry. I also find it easier to follow patterns in word form than graphical form.

donkey is lovely, they can expect lots of multicoloured donkeys coming their way soon!

Loving Hands lots of challenges and projects.i have a friend that makes stuff for them. I have only managed it once. Also the local prem babies.

I forgot making baby hats for the hospital!

There are some great crochet books in my local library, I've just looked at one making Christmas decorations (sorry I know we're in June) and another for making tiny animals. I also made some Pokémon figures, and some Minecraft ones, they were popular !
