cutting mat advice

I've been watching the Great British Sewing Bee, and would love to get one of those large cutting mats they were using on the floor. It looked like they possibly had different types....?

Looking online I've seen the self healing type, but also a cardboard type...?

I'd really like to be able to cut out patterns on the carpeted lounge floor.

What would you recommend would be best, and can you recommend a supplier?

Many thanks.

I got mine from here and I'm very happy with it.

A self-healing type is best. It will last far longer. If you go for the larger sizes, most are available in foldable options to make storage easier. The foldable ones are more expensive though.

I'm also thinking of buying a board, but I don't know what size to get. Am thinking A1 would be ideal but it's quite big in terms of store-ability.

My self heal mat has gridded area = 23 x 23 inches, I think. Good size. Smaller would be close to useless. Bigger wouldn't fit easily in car.

You might want a grid transparent sewing ruler too. And rotary blade.
Never heard of this sewing bee programme, must poke nose around to find...

I've got the things lljkk described. They're fabulously helpful.
