Knitted poncho pattern?

I would really like to knit a poncho in a similar style to this one from Jigsaw. I have this poncho and it's an oblong shape with a cut out neck. Are you able to give me any advice, or point me towards a pattern?

I don't really mind whether the actual knit is plain like this one or patterned, although my preference would be on the plain side.

Thank you!

Are you on Ravelry, OP? It's a great site and really good for searching through patterns. I'd recommend looking there.

Hi,

Thank you Pippi, I have had a look on there. I will try again. I keep thinking it should be relatively easy but I'm still a beginner so not able to come up with a pattern myself yet.

I will take another look.

That just looks like a big rectangle, stitched at the top.

Redshoe - I think it is, which is why I think it should be quite straightforward but I am a novice so not sure how I achieve it.

I have learnt basic stitches and have knitted a few simple patterns, but still a bit clueless. I think this should be easy but don't really know where to start.

First decide how wide it should be. Its just basic stocking stitch, so knit one row, purl the next. It looks like the border is just on the bottom edge, so maybe for the first say 10 stitches use 2 strands of wool. Does that make sense ? It does look easy. If I get to John Lewis over the weekend I'll have a closer look Grin

This might help by giving a guide to the number of stitches, the amount of yarn, and making up instructions.

Thank you, that's definitely given me some food for thought. I quite like the easy peasy poncho so could always follow that pattern.

My fave on rav is the Hugo poncho.
