OK I may be being a tad optimistic here, but beyond the normal basic painting / playdoh thing I"m stumped. DD2 (just 1) just eats everything we try and do and basically trashes things so I really hardly bother doing aything like this so DD1 misses out.

I live in East Herts so I'm also wondering if there are any toddler art groups anywhere, I can't find any on the internet though.

Any help / ideas gladly received!

Morning Pennies!!

Why not try baking some basic buns and icing them, that way you have something you can all eat after And your youngest can eat the ingredients and be relativly safe.

Hope you have fun!!

just really messy stuff like sponge painting, brush painting

lo can make a mess while you do something more creative with 2 year old

though to be honest I find kids that age just end up splodging anyway as much for the feel of the paint as anything else

Set up stuff he really can trash!

  • gloop (cornflour and water) v messy but great fun if you have the space
  • water play (can colour with food colouring)
  • building and playing with different sized cardboard boxes (your older child can paint and stick with them)
  • sticking with different shaped/coloured pasta and then it doesn't really matter if he eats it!

I will try and think of more, my ds has just woken!

  • marble painting in a tin with a lid and he can go mad rolling it and shaking it!

-veg printing

  • face paint each other, though they will probably both want to do you!
  • extend playdough activities by using a toy kitchen, cake cases, pans, plastic knives and forks etc

I'm so sorry I have said he instead of she x

Thanks for these - we had a mammouth playdoh session today with a load of kitchen bits and bobs which was fun and even DD2 managed not to eat a whole tub.

Will do some proper "cooking" over the weekend and see how that goes.

Try to get the Busy Books series. Loads of ideas in there for different ages. They also have recipies in the back for everything from paints to play dough all made out of flour and food colouring so that it doesn't matter if they are eaten. I got mine from Amazon.
