sewing project for DD

My DD (8Y) is going to a sewing class soon. She can choose something to make herself or the teacher will choose something for her. It's a rolling class which will go on for as long as she wants. 2 girls plus their teacher so lots of attention.

She has never machine sewed before but has done hand sewing. I have been surfing for something for her to make - am thinking a little shoulder bag or something. Has anyone got any suggestions? Thanks!

A skirt. There's very little sewing in a simple elasticated waist skirt and she will get a huge kick out of making something she can actually wear.

I was going to suggest a bag of some sort!
Or a cushion - she could embroider/applique the cover before making it up.
Or a small doll/teddy - she could then go on to make clothes for it.
