Christmas stocking stripes help please!

I am knitting a Christmas stocking, having never knitted anything sock like before. Although the pattern is written just for a solid colour stocking with contrast heel and toe, I decided I'd like stripes. Which was fine until I've turned the heel and now got to the point I need to pick up stitches and work in the round again. Do I stick with the white or switch to the red to fit in with my stripe pattern? I feel such a dope and wish I'd sticker to the actual pattern!

I finished the leg with a red stripe, I have a white heel and plan to do a white toe.

It's looking good so far! Is the red bit the same width as the other stripes - is the problem that the red is too thin currently?

Oh, I get it - sorry, being silly. Personally, I would pick up in white. Then the striping pattern will be correct down the front, won't it? It won't really be obvious that the white extends beyond the heel.

I agree, pick up with white.
Either will work though, two red stripes together would look equally good, as it's home made and your decision. Only shop bought things have to be completely lacking in character and originality or quirkiness!

Thank you both, I was thinking white, but wasn't sure having no previous experience. I didn't want to have to undo it in case I ran into difficulties.

Yippee! I'm loving making it. It's to replace the one my nan made me 42 years ago, so I want it to hopefully be something I'll be happy to live with for a fair few more!
