Can I ask a quick question about moss stitch please?

I want to make a nice moss stitch scarf. I have cast on an even number of stitches, and plan to do a row starting knit, then a row starting purl.

My question is, how can I make nice neat edges? I just made a scarf which was ribbed and its the first time I slipped the first stitch purlwise and knit the last st. How can I do this with moss stitch? I'd really like to have nice neat edges if possible.

I always knit the first and the last stitch regardless of pattern so for moss stitch it's K,P,K then next row is K, K, P.
It doesn't show but it keeps the edge neat (I'm doing this as the moment with an Aran pattern)

I know some knitters slip the first stitch every row but it doesn't look neat enough for me.

Slipping the first stitch is a good option - as PP said, just don't start moss stitch for a stitch or two at the edge.

You could knit a sampler, and see what you like?

Another option is to crochet around the edge. It's a really simple technique, and can look very nice - for moss stitch, I'd keep it plain and just do a double crochet (single crochet US) edge.

Thanks for the suggestions. Would this work:

adding 2 extra stitches at either end of the scarf so I can slip first st purlwise, k last stitch? and then do the moss stitch pattern in-between?

I would suggest casting on and knitting a few rows and seeing if you like it. I think what you are trying to do is -

Sl1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k2

On each row. You'll end up with a single garter stitch border next to the slip stitch edge. It could look quite nice.

You'd also be able to see if you like Moss stitch enough to do an entire scarf in it if you just jump in...
