What fabric for a Snow White dress?

The pattern envelope suggests gabardine (except for the sleeves - I can't work out what it suggests for those but they look different on the picture). Anyway, from a google, gabardine seems a bit erm, woven - as in you can see the weave which I don't like.

Could I just use a plain cotton? Or cheap satin?

Yes a heavyish cotton will be fine. Probably not satin unless you're going to use that for the whole outfit.
Lighter cotton or maybe tulle for the sleeves?
