Has anyone done arm knitting?

Hello, I can't knit at all but I read about 'arm knitting' online and really liked the look of the chunky blankets and scarves people had made. As far as I can make out, you use your arms/hands instead of knitting needles.
Has anyone tried this? How did you find it? Would it be easy enough for an unco-ordinated left handed person to pick up? Just wondering if it's a gimmick and I'd be better off learning to knit properly or if it is worth a try?

I think it is pretty limited really, I had a go just to see what it was like but I can't really envisage making anything. I am sure you could pick it up easily, I bet there are loads of videos on YouTube. I think real knitting would be better.

There are a lot of videos. It seems fairly simple.
