Decorating a Dolls House - Tips Please.

DD has been given a beautiful wooden dolls house with bags of wooden furniture. It has never been decorated and we have decided we would like to decorate it together but don't know where to start.

It is in DD's room and her furniture is white so we thought we'd begin by painting the outside white but I've realised I don't even know what type of paint to use. Is emulsion ok?

I've had a look online and see you can buy little bits on stick on carpet and I thought we could wallpaper the walls.

Does anyone have any tips for us or ideas we can use?

DD is 3 but fairly patient with crafting so I think she will want to help with most of the decorating.

I would be grateful if anyone can recommend a website for buying some people as we don't have anyone living in it at the moment despite having 4 beds and a crib to fill!

One of my uncles built a dolls house for my cousin when we were kids; and he decorated it exactly like their own house. Same wallpaper / flooring in all the rooms, and the furniture arranged in the same order.
It'd be difficult to do unless you were currently decorating, I suppose, but it looked absolutely fab!

Oh, as for emulsion, I wouldn't, I used satin wood on a wooden castle. Had the smallest pot available mixed at a Dulux counter in the colour of DD's choice, will do the same again if I ever get time to paint the dolls house.

I don't think that emulsion would wear very well at all and you might have to sand the whole thing carefully if it has any sort of oil based finish (which DD's has).

I need to source a TV. DD has arranged all the furniture we've been given and is shocked there isn't a TV

sheets of felt from craft shops for carpet - plain and patterned and it can be cut to size. so that wallpaper patterns are more 'minature', use patterned craft paper (you can get books of it in lidl and hobby craft!) for the walls. pva is fine for wallpaper, or if your dcs are likely to want frequent decorating changes then just stick it up with lots of very small bits of blue tack. Is your DD crafty? Get her some Fimo (the air dry clay) to make things.

We've been to ELC this morning and DD chose a mummy with a baby, a toddler, a dog, a cat and a rabbit. I really sympathise with the poor woman. I intend to improve her life when it's DD's birthday by at least buying her a car and some other adult company.

Great idea hornydilemma. We can start with carrots for the rabbit!
