Has anyone crocheted the cherry heart weekender blanket?

I've just started it and I was wondering if you could reassure me.

I'm doing the join as you go, so the hexagons are slip stitched together at their corners iyswim.
I've done a little and I was worrying a bit about it not being very strong or being a bit gappy as there's the 6 trs of each side between the slip stitches.

Will it sort itself out as it gets bigger? I'm sort of hoping that the more hexagons I join together the more it'll pull together?

How did yours turn out?

I'm making it for dd who is 4 so it'll need to cope with a bit of playing with rather than just laying on a bed.

I haven`t made the blanket , but i googled the blanket you are talking about about . To me it doesn't look like it should be be slip stitched at the corners . it looks like a single crochet has been used to attach the hexagons together , but i could be wrong.

The instructions just say to join with a sl st in the corners.
I've had a look at all the pics on Instagram #weekenderblanket and lots of those look like they're just joined in the corners

I've googled this and I think you are right Suddengeekgirl the hexies do just seem to be just at the corners. On some of the pictures I saw you could quite clearly see the gaps between the long sides of the hexies. I think I would have to have then joined on all sides as I would be worried the blanket would be robust enough if they were just joined at the corners.

The joins are very neat when the blanket is flat.
But if it's got any sort of pull on it the gaps bag open a bit iyswim.

I might have to experiment with joining....

Am I right in thinking that if I slip stitch around lots of small hexagons to join them then it's likely to be quite a stiff blanket? Or not so drapey?

I'd prefer to crochet them together rather than sew as I think it's more sturdy.

So.... This is what I've come up with. It has the centre of the cherry heart pattern then more of a granny style. The joining method is as attic24 tutorial.

Glad to hear the joining will be sturdy - I'm making a long line to measure up for the width of the bed and it seems pretty secure so far.
