How do I make a beaded leather necklace with knots?

I've seen a good few people with lovely necklaces which are leather thong with beads hanging off at all angles and often knotted in places. I know you can get a metal post, which you could use to 'hang' the bead, but I wonder if there are any instructions for this type of necklace anywhere. I've got loads of beads and am broke, so thought I could make some presents for family using them. Any advice would be appreciated.

here's the sort I make here !
But I can't give away my secrets !!

Yes, you use headpins to hang beads onto jump rings & secure with knots. I haven't seen instructions, I just sort of made it up !!

Lovely Whizzz....just got all my beads out again. They have been in hiding for almost a year now!
Made my first bracelet today as I curled up on the sofa with my lemsip!

whizz - yours are lovely, just the sort of thing I had in mind. I completely understand you not wanting to give away your secrets.

  • they are a bit fiddly to make but since 'discovering them' (thanks to Cod !) I can't stop making them! No secrets really, the knots just hold the beads in place.
I'm also trying matching bracelets too - although I need to put a fsten on them as I don;t think they'd stay tied

[Smile] Hi Dingle !

Another fab one, I've been having a go, but all my beads are a similar colour and I need to buy some more colours to break it up a bit. Unfortunately i don't have any bead shops nearby, but am going to London at the weekend, so I might pop into the one in Covent Garden if its still there.

I found putting a few clear beads in, helps break up the colours a bit at Covent Garden bead shop !
