What fabric for lightweight baby summer trousers?

When DS1 was a baby someone bought him a pair of very lightweight trousers that were elasticated at the waist. They were brilliant in the summer as they covered him without being too hot.

Now I have DS2 and I would like to make some for him but I don't know what sort of fabric I should be looking at. The original trousers didn't have a label with the fabric details and I know nothing about fabric. They were like the lightest shirt material you can get.

I have seen this but I'm not sure if it's the right sort of thing.

If anyone is more knowledgeable than me your thoughts would be welcome!

Not that....it's polycotton which means it's a mix of cotton and polyester. I actually have that fabric...I got it to make some bunting.

You need some nice cotton...just plain dressmaking 100% cotton.x

Thank you. That's really helpful. Now I just need to get round to doing it!
