Circle skirts

You know those circle skirts where you fold some fabric in quarters and then slice the corner off, so the fabric looks like a doughnut? Is it possible to make a zip-free one of those out of a stiff material? I've seen a tutorial where you make a zip-free one by making a waistband out of stretchy fabric but the skirt is also stretchy fabric. Can I do the skirt from a stiff cotton and then put a stretchy waistband onto it? Thanks!

Would it be very gathered at the waist?

I have made them for my dds out of normal cotton, and used a wide elastic for the waistband. I'll see if I can get a pic.

Sorry, can't do pic but have a look at Danamadeit.com and search for circle skir, that's the tutorial I used.

Katy, I've no idea, I am hopeless at sewing! I think a circle skirt has to be very gathered at the waist, to make it sort of flip out though?

Chaos, thank you, that's great - I'll have a look!

Oooh, just had a look at that website and that is PERFECT! Explains it all brilliantly - thank you so much! Thanks

I make them out of cotton and have used netting too. As long as the waist band is stretchy it does matter fi the skirt material isn't.
