Learning to crochet - how to hold the wool

I would like to learn to crochet and have bought several books and watched youtube videos aplenty. I can sort of do double crochet but I hold the wool as if knitting, i.e. in right hand, wrapped over index finger.

Please could experienced hookers advise me whether this is okay or should I try to hold it in the way suggested in books and on youtube? TIA

Does it work for you? I think that is more important than what a book says :)

I taught myself from a book and it didn't really say how to hold the hook and yarn so how I do it has just evolved unconsciously.

I guess you're crocheting left handed - hook in the left, yarn in the right.
