Cmyk - printing images

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, please feel free to move me along if not!

We recently had some professional baby photos taken and paid (a small fortune) for the digital images, along with some prints. I have tried to order some note cards using the images and have been told the company cannot accept the files as they are in Cmyk colour format, not RBG. I had no idea what this meant or that such differences existed. Anyway, all of the photo printing companies that I have tried have either said they are unable to print this format, or that the colours will come out wonky. Does anyone cleverer than me know how I can solve this? Several companies have said it is possible to cover the files, but I have no idea how to do this. Alternatively does anyone know of a company that could print this format?

I'm a bit annoyed that we spent so much money on something we now don't seem to be able to use :(

I find it very odd that the files are CMYK. Contact the photographer and request that they provide you with the files in RGB, as you'd probably need photoshop to convert them.
