Help with fancy dress costume !

Short notice fancy dress party.
Theme is Best of British
I don't live anywhere near a fancy dress shop and posting is not possible.
I have a red shift dress I don't mind destroying
I was thinking along the lines of postbox or London bus etc
Any more ideas ??

I'd punk it up a bit...Patriotism and Punk go hand in hand. Red white and blue...chains or leather straps...punky makeup...

Strawberries and cream? You could print some strawberry pictures onto special paper then iron the images onto a cream scarf (or onto the dress if you really don't mind destroying it!). Or if you have a plainish hat, you could plonk things like a tiny teacup, sandwich and cake onto it and go as Afternoon Tea? I'd either try and make the decorations from fabric, or cut up cereal boxes and paint them...

Hmm, British things. Um, well, if you believe the Olympic opening ceremony it was Shakespeare, Minis, James Bond and the NHS wasn't it?! Suppose you could always put some red make-up on your hands as well and go as Lady Macbeth!
