I'm looking for a fabric stiffener

Something I can use with (cheap, probably polyester if that makes a difference) lace to stiffen it enough to turn into crowns & keep shape.

Does anyone have any suggestions? (please don't say pva glue...I bloody hate the stuff!)

Watered down PVA .

It is the same stuff as the expensive sprays for roller blinds and the like.

Would a generous application of spray starch followed by a warm iron work

Blue, I wondered about starch but thought it might soften over time like on collars...not that I iron many collars to know about these things

Sugar water solution was what they used in t'olden days.

Mrs Beeton recommended lace be dipped in it and then dried wound round a container/bottle to keep the shape. HTH

Hi Lucysmam I was going to use spray on starch. There have some crowns done like this on Mod Podge - have a look. (i.e. I don't know how to do links ) I'm sure I told you this last week

you did! I had a mooch on Pinterest too for some to try...just wasn't sure what to use to make them keep their shape. (I haven't actually got round to them yet...am still working on Elsa dress number three)
