What fabric to make a kimono jacket / top

So I have the idea that I want to make myself a nice kimono jackety top for spring. Something to wear with a nice top and my skinny jeans. What fabric should I use and where is best to buy?

Only things I have ever made are an Elsa dress (groan) and 2 circle skirts. Have never used a pattern so just going to make this from my head and hope for the best

Thanks xx

How about indigo fabric www.clothaholics.com/ or www.clothhouse.com/ I've made one in a paisley and love it.

Are you looking for a lightweight kimono or something heavier?

I'm currently making summer kimonos and cape/kaftan type thingys for my daughters with this chiffon material

But they will be properly "beachy" type kimonos if you go for chiffon.

I bought a couple meters of this shirt weight type fabric to make one for myself to go with skinnies and a string vest, but I wear black all year round so might not be much help Grin

Can I ask what patterns you're using? I'm on the hunt for a good kimono jacket pattern. Thank you!
