Matching casting on and casting off

Often patterns specify to cast on using a particular method. The thumb method though looks very different, doesn't it, when you compare the cast on and off edges?
What do you consider to be the best way of casting on and off so that both edges match? I am assuming cast on with two needles and tbh I only know one way to cast off anyway!

I only know one way to cast off and until recently I didn't realise there were other ways of casting on. I have always used the same method which apparently I've just found out is the cable casting on method.

A pattern I've been knitting today calls for the Russian bind off. I followed this video.
It looks similar to casting on.

I bet mine is the cable method then. I had never heard of the Russian method and gave it a go, it is quite thick though, I found. Interesting to try something new, thank you.
