4ply wool suggestions for a baby's cardigan?

Ideally one that washes well, comes in various shades of pink/purple/white & isn't too expensive... I've spent the last 24 hours looking at various wools & have completely confused myself!

Sirdar Snuggly is a good soft yarn for baby clothes. It's acrylic/nylon but not at all scratchy.

Thanks for the suggestions. Daft question alert, what is 'sock yarn'? If I bought 4 ply sock yarn, would that be the same thickness as any other 4 ply yarn?

YY I'm a big fan of Stylecraft Life. Nice and soft but can be chucked in the machine.
