I need help, has anyone painted on fabric dye?

I've very very stupidly left a black piano shawl on a chair and in the creases it has got sun faded Sad

It's a really beautiful thing and I'm very cross with myself.

Can I paint very carefully the black silk in the areas it's got faded? I can't dye the whole thing as it's got a lot of beautiful silk embroidery in bright colours

I think you'd need to use silk paint but it spreads on the silk so the embroidery may be at risk. Normal fabric paint will just sit on top of the fibres and affect the feel of the fabric. There are even differences in types of silk paint IIRC - there's one fixed by ironing, that too sits on the fibres, and the steam fixed one is more of a dye which goes into the fibres, but again I'd be worried about the embroidery being damaged.

Is it a big patch where it's faded?
