Nice quality 'current' cotton jersey

I have been wanting to make a specific dress for myself which needs 3m of lightweight cotton jersey. I have been looking for fabric for months.

Can anyone recommend a fabric shop for good quality cotton jersey fabric - sort of like the patterns that you would find in White Stuff. I have tried all my usual places, online and otherwise.

I'd like to have an answer to this as well! Spent all last night trying to find a cotton jersey featured in a new sewing magazine.

OwlCapone · 25/03/2015 07:58

What are your usual places?

Dots and Stripes sells good quality cotton jersey:

I have found a few nice Liberty prints (£70 though for 3 m) but I wear a lot of Liberty and I want a change. If I wanted to look like a floral curtain I would be fine, but I don't.

There must be somewhere out there - if can't find anything I think I will make it in a plain claret colour but I want a pattern really.

Nice quality and nice pattern - can't be that hard can it?

Try Dragonfly Fabrics.

lavendersun · 25/03/2015 09:02

Places I usually shop at and have tried - Truro Fabrics, Calico Lane, Dragonfly, Shaukat, White Lodge, Alice Caroline, Sewbox, Croft Mill, Ditto - no joy unless I go for a Liberty print which I don't want to do.

I don't want floral I want quirky. I seem to remember a european store that had nice designs but I can't remember what it was called.

Thanks Spring but I don't fancy anything on offer at dots and stripes.

have you tried Ebay?

lavendersun · 25/03/2015 10:07

I have looked at e-bay but would prefer to see a swatch as I am looking at spending £50.

I have found somewhere new - I think I like these and might order swatches.

Plush addict are quite good - I've just started buying fabric from them.

MinniesMate · 25/03/2015 10:39

My daughter recommends Kitschy Koo, but they don't have the material I'm searching for.

lavendersun · 25/03/2015 10:41

This came up in a search for European fabric shops that ship to the UK, quite a few stores listed. I am going to order swatches from Fabric Godmother - two of the ones I like are not in stock though.

Have you had a look on Spoonflower? I'm a tad obsessed at the moment! Mines only took 12 days to arrive.

Moreisnnogedag · 26/03/2015 01:21

Oh hamilton why did you show me that?! That spoonflowr looks amazing. Out of interest how much was your shipping?

RavenRose · 26/03/2015 06:44

The European store wasn't this was it?

www.seamstar.co.uk has a few, not sure if they'll have what you're after though.

lavendersun · 26/03/2015 07:45

Raven you are brilliant, it was my fabrics, and I have just searched my inbox and found the quite old e-mail to prove it!

Michael - I will have a look, thanks.

Hamiltoes - I used to live in the US and can't bring myself to pay the massive shipping and customs fees.

Please tell me you are making your dress out of this [hopeful]

lavendersun · 26/03/2015 08:15

Lovely Owl! I am considered somewhat daring in my fabric choices at times, but not that daring!

I sort of channel a daring retro vibe, my family call me an old hippy.

I spent nearly 20 years constrained in pinstripe suits and think I have gone slightly overboard in correction! And I am currently a student again.

:)

Hamiltoes · 26/03/2015 08:27

more I got 4m for $82 shipped which is about £55, so about £3,40 a FQ which is cheaper than Art Gallery Fabrics on ebay when you count shipping (I make childrens clothes from craft cotton!)

Mind you, I thought I was getting a deal but now I see some of the stuff on Fabricland for £3 A METER!! Must look into this for plain stuff, anyone know about the quality of their craft cotton?

Moreisnnogedag · 26/03/2015 09:56

Wow that's pretty good. I look at the fatquartershop and contemplate moving to America on that basis alone.

ClapAlongIfYouLike · 29/03/2015 23:51

My SIL lives close to this store. The store is in the Netherlands, but they do also ship to UK.

lavendersun · 30/03/2015 11:23

Thanks ClapAlong - good prices, I might try an order from there next time I need something.

My fabric stash for dress fabrics alone now fills three 84l boxes ..... I have put myself on a fabric free diet for the foreseeable future.

I deleted my sewing bookmarks by mistake the other day and can't find them in my trash folder - a sad day for the shops.
