crochet amigurumi question

Hi, just a quick question I just can't seem to get my head around this.
When I'm making soft toys or amigurumi, do I work in a spiral and just mark where the first stitch of the last round is? I don't slip stitch at the end of the round? And do I chain 1 if working dc before I begin the next round?

I'm pretty sure you're correct.

You just keep on dc-ing in a spiral, iyswim. So use a stitch marker, don't slip stitch and don't ch1 at the start of each row.

Yeah, just keep going in one continuous spiral marking the beginning of your row as you go so you don't lose track of where you are.
Another tip you may find useful, The best way I have found to decrease without a hole is to put your hook in just the front loop of both stitches and crochet those together to make your decrease.

Life that's perfect thanks for the tip, I made a giraffe recently and she was full of holes where I'd decreased and I couldn't figure out how to stop that.
I've been crocheting for years but always struggled with amigurumi, and those little soft toys are just gorgeous!

My first few were holey too until I picked up that tip. happy crochet

I use a bit of scrap yarn that I pull back and forth over my first stitch on each round. It is easy to pull out afterwards and you can rip it back if you need to.
