Designing a stuffy from scratch, need some advice.

DD has asked for a toy you cannot buy, not unless you want to make a fortune (minecraft related) so i decided, seeing how i've made little hand sewn toys before, that i'd have a go at making her one.

thing is, the ones i've done before have always had a well used pattern and instructions, this time im pretty much doing it from scratch.

I have done the pattern pieces, got my fabric..etc, but would i be better to do a mock up in a cheap fabric first do you think?

Also, as its a minecraft thing, it needs to be slightly square, with sort of corners, rather than being round, is there a method i can use to achieve that, or should i leave some extra fabric and use false seams?

My mum made Ds1 a giant Enderman which turned out really cool. I wouldn't worry too much about getting the edges completly square as even the official toys have slightly rounded corners.

What character is it? As that would affect how I'd go about it, although if the fabric wasn't too expensive I'd go straight for it rather than making a mock up first.

Would adding interfacing help to make the corners squarer? I know it helps woith bags.

I'm not sure, i think it would depend on how thick your fabric is. If the fabric is quite thick then adding interfacing might have the opposite effect and stop you from being able to get sharp corners. Are you using a plushie type fabric?
