colour combinations for a big blanket?

A group is planning making a big granny squared blanket to auction/raffle for a fundraiser.

Any suggestions how to get the colours looking complementary and planned rather than random and clashing?

This is rather difficult if you have no idea about Colour and every one is going to use up scraps of material. You could stipulate that they can use any colour that is predominately blue or another colour such as red. Then see what the sewn together squares look like and sew them all onto a border that picks out the predominate colour and ties the mish mash together.

Choose either warm or cold colours and tell everyone to stick to that. So if you choose warm....the acceptable colours are reds, oranges, yellows, pinks, purples, beiges and browns.

Cold...greens, greys, blues, whites. Would look very nice in either.
