How to melt soap?

Hoping someone creative can help me.
My daughter has seen a "make" on TV which involves melting glycerin soap. Instructions are here: www.foundationtv.co.uk/f-tips/ropysoap.html
They microwaved the soap and ended up with a lovely clear mixture, like jelly before it has set. We ended up with a frothy, cloudy mess. Tried it again on really low power, and in a saucepan at low temp, but no better.
Any thoughts? I've got to get this sorted or her four-year-old world is going to end!
