Dressmaking gadgets that you love

I have recently discovered bias binding makers - how I haven't used them before I don't know. They are absolutely fantastic. I have given up on facings on my current go to pattern and made paisley/funky bindings which looks brill.

So for me that and my invisible zipper foot helps to make the things I make look good.

I would love to hear about any other 'gadgets' out there that people like a lot.

I love my rotary cutter for making cutting out quicker and more accurate. Also my sewing gauge for getting my hems straight.

Thanks Thumbcat - I seem to be rubbish at using a rotary cutter, I only cut through 1 layer half of the time.

A sewing gauge sounds interesting, I will look that up - I often find straightness the biggest challenge of all!

My favourite one has to be the seam ripper with a little light built in. Sounds totally pointless but it's great for unpicking black stuff. I sew a lot of black!

Also love the magnet on a telescopic stick. Great for picking up dropped pins and needles when I can't be arsed to get off the sofaSmile

I love my pin magnet. It's only a small item but it saves me from leaving pins all over the floor and my sewing table.
I also really like my vanishing fabric pen.

Oooh, lovely, another new idea a seam ripper with a light - we live in an old house with small windows and sometimes I wear a head light because I can't see enough even with the lights on!

I have magnetic pin dishes and one on a stick, and still manage to find them on the floor at times!

Also, not a sewing tool per se but I remembered something else I like - a rubberised bobbin tray like this one, I had a clear plastic one but one drop on the floor and the hinges broke.

I am doing really well this month, churning out a garment a week which is a lot for me doing it to escape revising and cleaning I think.

My favourite item which is a thimble that is rubberised round the sides so it stays put no matter what you do, saves the fingers too!
