What to knit/crochet for a newborn?

Hi all. I've just had my second child and want to knit or crochet him something funky and useful. Any ideas? I'm an intermediate knitter/crocheter.

Hi! How about a car seat blanket? There are lots of patterns on Pinterest and you can make it as funky as you like - really useful because the holes for straps mean you can keep the baby warm without compromising safety.

An amigurumi toy that he can keep as he grows? I've made some as gifts this christmas.

Cardigans. I wish I had knitted three times as many when I was pregnant! Now I have no time!
