Quick A-line dress question.

I'm in the process of taking a pattern off a dress - the original has a slit in the back rather than a middle seam & the opening is finished with binding tape with a button/loop closure.

I want to re-make the dress in satin so am thinking I maybe ought to make a middle back seam? Extend the opening from 3 to 6 inches & then finish my opening with matching bias binding before adding a fastener?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

(sorry for the gazillion and one posts lately, am very very rusty at these things - been years since I made anything).Smile

Actually, thinking about it, it's not an a-line dress. It's a princess dress.

Six inches seems like a long opening for the back?

A zip might be better if you need it to be that long?

Is the original dress back one piece?

I forgot I'd posted this! I'm sorted now but thank-you Smile
