I have started sewing. Have completed a few projects and wondered is it worth investing in an overlocker? All advice appreciated xx

I am an engineer it took me a while to understand why any one would be 'calling all sewers' I love the English language.

I'd definitely get one if you can afford it and have the space. It will give a lovely professional finish to whatever you're making. I dream of owning one.

anothernumberone - you are not the only one who thought about those underground pipes but I don't have the excuse of being an engineer!

What kinds of projects are you likely to complete in the future? An overlocker isn't needed for some things although Felix is right, it does give a professional finish. But they are very expensive!

I bought one last year (or maybe the year before I can't remember now).

I don't use it enough really as I don't sew a lot but it is fantastic. I bought this one which was really good value, metal bodied, fairly heavy duty and simple to thread and use. Doesn't give me any grief at all which I like.

I had to make halloween costumes last year and I sewed a silver picot hem which made the netting parts look fantastic and about 60 seconds per layer.

Definitely worth having if possible.

I love my overlocker, it cost me £199 from sewing machines direct. Highly recommended!

Rue, I have never heard anyone say a bad word about SMD, amazing really!

Ok thanks. Might look for a second hand one first
