Can anyone help with my pine unit makeover? Pics included.

I just got a nice pine unit from a local board for £50. I'm planning on painting it and removing the glass from the doors to make it family friendly.

Does anyone know how I would go about taking the glass out and filling the gap where the glass was sandwiched in order to make sure it's safe?

I'll be replacing the glass with chicken wire. If anyone could suggest anything else I could replace it with I'd love to hear it. Thanks

MNHQ I've posted in the wrong place. Could this please be moved to property/DIY?

Thanks

Are you going to be using it to display or store things in? You could get safety glass (glass merchants will sell it), or you could remove the glass (which is held in with bead by the look of it) and use wooden panels, just fit them and paint them to match the unit? That's a gorgeous unit, how are you planning on painting it? (And don't say 'with a brush' :o )

If you want the thread moved btw, you have to report it, that's the only way they'll see it unless one of them happens to read this thread :)

Thanks for your reply, sorry for the delay the door went and then we popped out!

I'm planning on using it to store bits (kids shoes, hats etc) in rather then display so I thought the wire may work better then the glass to disguise the junk stuff inside.

I didn't notice the bead round the glass (this is my first attempt at this type of thing) i feel scared to take it off incase i damage the unit. I need to give this some thought.

I picked up Annie Sloane in French Linen but yes, I will be using a brush and perhaps a roller Wink

Another thought, you could get frosting film (if that's what it's called), stick it to the glass to make it 'frosted' so you don't have to worry about damaging the doors by removing the glass, but everything inside is hidden :)

I love the look of AS paints, just wish I could afford them :o

Plus the film should keep the glass from shattering if it does get broken, it should all stay stuck to the film!

That's a really good idea! I've seen some great ones that have numbers in, that could be cute as there are 4 doors and I have 4 kids. One each for all their day to day school clutter! Fab idea Flowers

I picked up the AS wax brush and quickly put it down when I saw the price Shock
