Suggestions for wool stash in hospital please

Am in hospital for foreseeable future. Doctors have said it's ok for me to crotchet while I'm here - therapeutic value outweigh dust risks!! I have Attic 24 acrylic wool at home for a blanket but too much to get brought in. I was thinking of buying some wool and wondered if I could have some suggestions please as to what would be a good basic stash. Natural fibres please, no acrylic. Just to play around and maybe try and do a couple of small things for Christmas. I'm a basic crocheter but now have lots of time to improve!

i don't know how much you want to spend but i love king cole bamboo cotton and millamia merino. both are about £5 a ball although the millamia is only 50g. i love them because they feel so nice to crochet with and the colours they both come in are gorgeous!!

i made a little elf hat for my dd from the red and green millamia and i have made a couple of gorgeous blankets from the bamboo. i even made a little elephant out of the bamboo. theres a really easy and cheap little amigurumi book on amazon. i can get you the name if you like. might be fun while youre stuck in hospital

ps. i have probably got some odd bits of bamboo cotton and milliamia knocking about. not enough to make anything much but certainly enough to play about with. if you would like me to send them to you just pm me

The Drops extra fine merino is really good value. All the Drops yarns are actually. I get mine from Wool Warehouse. The Drops (garnstudio) website has loads of free patterns too.

Aww, thank you everyone. Lovely suggestions. Will look up wool warehouse, drops, bamboo cotton and milliamia. Oh and look into Ravelry more. On first glance I found it a bit bewildering.

Then start lace. a skein of lace weight yarn and a complex pattern will give months of entertainment.

I'm not that advanced but yes pretty sure you can. I am definitely tempted by knitting but want to get confident in crochet first. I'm going to be here for about 3 more months so will have plenty of time to do both I would think !!!
