I'm still a knitting novice, I've just completed a jumper for ds4 (originally for ds3 - oops!)very pleased with it. Am now trying some booties for freinds dd. The pattern is meant to be simple but then so am I. I have to increase one stitch at either end of every alternate row. I've followed the diagram in the book to increase (garter stitch) but the edges of the work are holey and loose.
Does anyone know of a website with close up video demos or is anyone able to talk me through the process?
TIA

I never increase on the very first or last stitch. I always knit the first stitch, then increase in the second. At the other end, you just do your increase in the penultimate stitch, and then knit the last stitch. It keeps the edges neater and avoids the "holey" effect you mentioned.
