Do they need weeks to dry out?

Can I make them without orris root?

You mean an orange with cloves stuck in it? Sure you can - it can carry on drying as you use it as long as you hang it somewhere decently ventilated.

I've made plenty and I don't even know what orris root is :)

Thanks skylark Smile

How did you make them?

I'm thinking that you may be planning something a bit more complex than mine - mine involved putting a bit of ribbon round the orange parcel style to make a loop to hang it up with and then sticking cloves in all the gaps.

Like this (though I used a cocktail stick to make holes)
