Crochet pattern confusion!!

Aargh! I think I'm now on my 4th attempt at doing a wave afghan pattern and all say different things! I have done YouTube searches for these stitches and every video says different! Basically, when doing a wave pattern, how do I tr2tog and tr3tog?? Could you explain where I am going wrong because when I turn and try and match the waves on the other side, it's not playing ball so my waves are not matching up!! Thank you in advance if this makes sense!

Are you working from a pattern and if so, is it one you could link to please?

From your OP I am a little confused by the "tr2 tog" and "tr3 tog" - if you are working decreases with both odd and even numbers of stitches on every row then I can imagine that this would pull your waves out of alignment. Every wave or ripple pattern I have worked has had two lots of tr2 tog forming the trough part of the pattern and they have stayed in the same place on every row.

For a straightforward explanation of tr2 tog then have a look at the ripple pattern on the Attic24 blog. There isn't a video but the photo tutorial and explanation is very good.

Have a look at Attic 24s best ripple pattern, she has a really good tutorial with lots of photos. Also took me about 4 goes but got there in the end. Good luck.

I agree - check out the Attic24 Neat Ripple. It is very straightforward.

Yet another one to say the Attic 24 neat ripple and she has added a ripple know how page with border to square up the ripple.

Thanks for all your replies, I had a go at Attic24 pattern last night and I'm giddy with glee that I've now done the first row which looks as it should and have now turned. I'm about half way through the 2nd row and have checked that between each "valley" or "mountain" i have exactly 4 trebles as she states, but, the section im on has started to go out of kilter and I just cant work out why! Hmm
Perhaps i need to upload a picture when i get home later?

Make sure at the beginning of the row when you've done your chain 3 you do a treble into the first stitch on the row. If you don't it goes wrong and you have to start again like I did. And 2 trebles into the last stitch as well.

Hope that makes sense

Bear in mind that English crochet patterns and American crochet patterns use the same terms for different stitches. That could be why things were going wonky.
