Zip question for sewers?

The zip broke on a much loved bag and I need to replace. Thing is, what sort of zip do I buy?

I've been looking on-line and they are described as open ended or closed ended - what does this mean?

Thanks!

An open ended one would be like you get on a zip front hoody - open at both ends.

A closed ended one would be like you get in a pair of trousers.

It depends which of these the one in your bag resembles - if could be either.

If you can see the end of your bag zip a close ended zip will, I think, have a fat staple across the teeth at the end.

Ah, I see!! So the open one is where you push the bottom end together to join them and the zip up!

I need closed, thanks so much, makes sense now!
