knitting pattern help

hi everyone

I hope some experienced knitters can help me with a pattern problem I am having.
I have 144 stitches in row and pattern has some lacy chevrons in it . pattern says

K1, yarn over, knit4, slip1 ,k2tog,psso, k4,yarn over :repeat from to last stitch , knit 1

well by my calculation this is in effect 12 stitches repeated (losing 2 stitches one by the slipped stitch and one by the knit 2 tog but these 2 stiches are replaced by the 2 yarnovers

next row all knit

so will have 12 x12 of this making 144 but pattern suggests that there will be one left over - not sure what I am missing here .

also relevant that both times I have done this so far ( both now unravelled -grrr! ) I ahve managed to end up with 143 stitches and then next time 142 . it is possible I am just making a mistake as have not knitted for a while but I am wondering if this is anythning to do with the K1 at the end that i cant account for ?

any advice most gratefully received .

I think it has something to do with the last yarn over and having just worked the 12 stitches on a convenient piece of knitting I did as a prop for somebody, I think there is a mistake in the way the pattern is written. If you do the 12 stitch pattern, the last stitch of the block is a yarn over which of course will fall off the needle without another stitch at the end which is why you got 143 on one go (I suspect you missed a YO to get 142 which is very easy to do as I know to my cost).

I think the row should be 145 to allow you that extra stitch at the end.

Alternatively it should say don't bother with the final YO and make the last repeat 11 stitches and the row should be 143.

Where did the pattern come from? Have you Googled to see if there are any published or known corrections?

The other thing to look at is what happens in the next knit row. How many stitches in that?

Thank you so so much Bertha for going to the trouble of trying this out for me . I'm glad your interpretation of pattern is the same as mine - that is reassuring! Will have a look on line for any corrections - I hadn't thought of that . X
