Good yarn shops in London?

My friend and I are planning a crafty day out in London, and are looking for recommendations of yarn shop, not the big chain stores but with a good stock and a nice vibe... any ideas?

I don't find Loop all tht good and very expensive. they are closed on Mondays. I have not found any other shops in London though. Not been to iknit, but have tried Liberty and John Lewis.

Which side of London are you planning to go to?

PetulaGordino · 17/09/2014 17:24

i like loop for its expensive yarn-stroking potential!

Love IKnitLondon, I've been going there since they were in Vauxhall (now near Waterloo station), go on a Wed or Thurs and join the early evening knitting group if you fancy!

(from IKL's website - I'm not on commission honestly)

Our stock includes a range of yarns to suit all tastes, with well-known names nestled alongside one-off hand-dyed hanks from independent producers as well as our own hand dyed range, I Knit or Dye. With a higher than average selection of yarns sourced from the British Isles alongside a number of more exotic fibres from overseas (Habu, Manos del Uruguay, Malabrigo et al) there's something to suit all tastes ...

we are proud to be the only knitting shop in the UK with a licence ...

Yes, the yarn stroking potential of LOOP is phenomenal.

TheSameBoat · 17/09/2014 22:40

Ooooh thanks everyone. We are coming to Waterloo so I reckon IKnit sounds perfect. Plus the thought of a glass of vino whilst knitting has got me excited already!

some more ideas here

I was going to suggest looking at the Yarn Crawl routes too :)

I'm not big on iknit as have had unhelpful service there.

Loop is my local and has beautiful stock but the stuff they sell is pricey. It isn't that they are more expensive just that they primarily stock expensive yarn. Staff don't always fall over themselves to chat either.

I've heard good things about mrs moon in twickenham but haven't been...

Of not milamia have a new aran range which looks fab.
